On October 8–10, 2025, the COMMUNITAS project joined Sustainable Places 2025 — one of Europe’s most renowned conferences dedicated to advancing sustainability in the built environment. Held in Milan, Italy, the event gathered 600+ participants, including researchers, policymakers and innovators from more than 150 EU-funded projects.

The conference, hosted by R2M Solution and Comune di Milano, offered a unique platform to bridge research and market innovation. Over three days, the programme featured 29 workshops and 8 paper sessions structured around thematic tracks such as Data-Driven Cities, Smart Readiness and Resilience in the Built Environment.
COMMUNITAS at the PED Citizen Engagement Workshop

COMMUNITAS, represented by ASM Research Solutions Strategy, actively contributed to the PED Citizen Engagement Workshop, which brought together leading European projects focused on energy communities and citizen-driven innovation.
Our team presented COMMUNITAS’ unique approach to co-creation, UX/UI testing and human-centric design in digital energy tools — showing how participatory methods can enhance the user experience and foster trust in smart energy solutions.
The workshop sparked lively discussions among participants from academia, industry and local authorities on how citizens can become true actors of the energy transition, not just its beneficiaries.
Inspiring dialogues and shared visions

Beyond the workshop sessions, COMMUNITAS engaged in valuable networking with other Horizon Europe initiatives. These exchanges highlighted the importance of collaboration across projects addressing energy communities, resilience and digitalisation — aligning with the European Commission’s vision for a sustainable and citizen-centred energy future.
The Sustainable Places Conference once again proved to be a space where science meets implementation and where new partnerships are formed to accelerate the EU’s green transition.
